DTRT: Put Down the Phone and Drive

Four years ago, Ashley’s life changed forever in one split second.  The reason? She was texting while driving.  Today, Ashley is partially paralyzed.

Ashley got ready for work, but did not see her husband before she left.  Wanting to tell him she loved him and to have a good day, so she pulled out her phone to send him a text.  When Ashley drifted over the center line into oncoming traffic, she overcorrected and lost control of her vehicle.  It flipped and she was thrown into the air; Ashley was not wearing a seatbelt.  When she came to, Ashley knew immediately that she was paralyzed.

Ashley suffered a broken neck; she could not stand or sit up; she could not bathe or dress herself.  Every day since has been a struggle; the hardest part for this now-divorced mom is not being able to be the mom she once was to her daughter.  Ashley’s daughter will say things like, “I like to go play with your friends, because they have legs, and they can do things,” or “'Momma, I will wait. I'll wait until you walk, I'll be patient.”

That is a powerful message from a child.  DTRT (Do The Right Thing); stop texting and driving; it’s not worth it.
